Frequently asked questions

Please feel free to talk to our team about any issues or concerns you may have, but here are some of the frequently asked questions we encounter.

This varies depending on the specification of the loft, including which type of loft conversion it is, how big it is, and the features to build within it. However, the average conversion takes about 12 weeks for us, and you can see the general steps we run through on our detailed process page so you know exactly what’s likely to be happening and when.

Unique Build will cover Brighton & Hove and the surrounding area up to 20 miles away from the city. If you’re unsure, get in touch, but it’s roughly up to and including Worthing to the west, Haywards Heath to the north, and Eastbourne to the east.

There are numerous ways to finance a loft conversion. We have worked with clients who have saved for years and are financing out of these savings. However, this is a rarity. Most of our customers need to find at least some external financing. For those who have a large amount in savings but need a small amount to pay their bill, a personal loan is suitable, although we only recommend this for up to £5000 in additional costs. Most commonly of all, our customers remortgage their house, allowing them to offset the costs of the loft conversion to their mortgage.

We’ve worked on lofts of all shapes and sizes, as well as houses of all varieties. In all likelihood, we can create a loft conversion for your house, although it’ll differ depending on the type of house you live in (terraced, semi-detached, detached). If you have any doubts, the best way to find out is to get in contact with us and arrange a visit to your home.

Simply get in contact with us. We’ll need to arrange a visit to your home and get a good understanding of your project requirements, and then we can provide you with a quote within 7 days.

During the visit, you’ll meet Rich, our co-director. Rich will take measurements of your loft space and proceed to talk about your exact specification for your loft. Rich will bring a series questions so you don’t need to think of everything in advance.

Rich will also listen to and address any concerns you have about the loft conversion process. We’ll then begin putting together your quote.

Loft conversions can vary wildly in price depending on the type of home we are working on, the specifications to which we’re building, and the features that we are to put in place. Therefore there’s no way we can provide a defined figure for this.

The good news is that we can have a quote in your hands within 7 days of visiting your home, and our quotes are always fully transparent and final. This means you’ll know exactly what it’ll cost you.

We do indeed. All of our work has a 10 year guarantee, meaning that in the rare event that something does go wrong, we’ll be there to fix it up for you.

Take a look at some of our case studies to see how some of our lofts started life, and how the end result looked. These are stories from our customers showcasing the spaces that they’re proud of. If you’d like to see a loft conversion in person, it can be arranged but we’ll need to liaise with previous customers.

The short answer is yes! Take a look at our page about adding value to your home with a loft conversion. A loft conversion can be seen as an investment into your home’s value, but it also adds immediate value to your life too. In our eyes, that makes it one of the best and most useful investments that you can make.

Planning permission for a loft isn’t typically required, but there are certain circumstances where you will need it. This is most common with loft conversions that will be altering the size and/or shape of the roof space, such as a mansard loft conversion. For others, it really depends on specification. We’ll be able to help guide you through this process and advise as to whether you will need planning permission. Many lofts are now covered via permitted development.

We pride ourselves on hiring staff of exceptional competence, but nonetheless will have a project manager on hand at all times. In addition, we set up a private online chat room where we can provide you with updates, all streamlined in one place, and you can ask questions or highlights any issues you may have 24/7.
