About Lewes
The old and historic market town of Lewes is the county town for East Sussex. Its history is rich, with Lewes Castle dating back to 1069, and with significant historical figures such as Anne of Cleves and Thomas Paine spending years living in Lewes.
Today it remains an important centre for East Sussex County Council, and also plays host to some of the most famous Bonfire Night activities in the UK.
Houses are a mix of old and new. Central Lewes in particular has houses dating back centuries. These are often terraced, and loft conversion options can be limited.
